I built this model together with the Bf-109 I recently posted. Both Airfix kits… Both late-war German fighters… Both using the same basic color scheme of RLM 74/75/76… And this Fw-190, like its Bf-109 litter mate, wasn’t filling me with confidence as I was building it — but I’ll be darned if I don’t love the result now that it is done… just as I did the 109!
I’ve tended to have some trouble with those spiral patterns on Luftwaffe spinners. Even when a decal is furnished, I find it nearly impossible to get them on right. With this Fw-190 it worked about as well as I have ever gotten it! The recent Bf-109 had a decal, but it was too stiff for me to get to conform to the spinner, so I ended up painting it with black under flexible tape, then covered in yellow. That worked ok, too! (But not if you look too close…)
This model (and the Bf-109!) also represent some of my best success with panel line accents (Tamiya). Perhaps because the Airfix lines are so deep, the accents went in just as intended, and I was very pleased with the result. Thanks for checking it out!

I recently built this kit, and it was my first experience with those spinner “corkscrew” decals, it did not end well, but practice should make better!
