I had one of these back in the ’70s, so when I saw the kit at the local hobby shop — in a condition and at a price that suggested it had been on someone’s shelf for quite a while before being transferred for resale — I sprang for it and recently put it together. I liked the two-tone camo scheme, but in the end I opted for something that would be a little (or a lot) different from the usual and painted it the blue variant. Looking online, I see numerous other blue Sonias much more skillfully finished, with realistic weathering and detail accents, while mine that you see here is just plain blue and does not, in my own opinion, look terribly realistic. Oh, well! I still like it. I also offer a behind-the-scenes shot of my co-creator staging the setup in his PJs… It’s lovely to have this hobby to share with my kid!
